Samantha Coronel is a Consultant for Universalia’s Environment, Security, and Conflict Transformation Practice where she contributes to evaluations for bilateral and multilateral organisations. Ms. Coronel's main areas of professional interest are corporate social responsibility, labour rights, and sustainable livelihoods.
Samantha has worked and volunteered for non-profits, as well as for both public and private sectors in various countries including Germany, Canada, United States, Senegal, Uganda, and Mongolia. Prior to joining Universalia, she worked for Fairtrade International – a global standard-setting sustainability non-profit based in Germany, whose mission is to promote fairer trading practices and empower farmers and workers. Her areas of focus there were Workers’ Rights, Living Wages, Living Incomes and Sustainable Livelihoods. In this work, she drew from her experience working with British Columbia’s provincial Ministry of Labour researching domestic and international labour and social policies. While her background is in international development, her experience in research and strategy projects cover topics ranging from technology to social policy. Samantha holds a Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs from the University of British Columbia, specializing in Development and Social Change, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies from McGill University. Samantha is fluent in English with working proficiency in French, as well as advanced comprehension in Tagalog.
