Girl Powered Nutrition (GPN) programme, launched in early 2018 and valued at 3.2 million USD, is funded by Nutrition International (NI) and has been designed to influence knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of girls and young women and their communities through a nutrition curriculum to be delivered primarily through the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) network in five target countries. Universalia conducted a theory-based, utilization focussed evaluation and participatory process evaluation of the GPN programme. Using OECD-DAC criteria, the evaluation assessed relevance, effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of the programme. The evaluation used the programme logframe to assess the extent to which GPN is likely to achieve its objectives as planned. The evaluators also identified key factors to consider in optimizing the provision of nutrition messages to reach adolescent girls and contribute to improving knowledge, attitudes and practices on nutrition. The lessons learned will be used to inform a potential second phase of the project, implemented on a larger scale. Data collected methods include an in-depth document review, semi- structured interviews, focus group discussions and field missions to Madagascar, Philippines and Tanzania.
