On September 8-11, Universalia participated in the 13th International Forum of the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) in Costa de Sauípe in Bahia, Brazil. The Forum is a triennial event gathering nearly two thousand women’s rights advocates and practitioners from 140 countries and representing civil society, multilateral and bilateral agencies, donors, foundations and the academic world. This year’s Forum was entitled Feminist Futures, Building Collective Power for Rights and Justice.
Mr. Emmanuel Trépanier, Practice Leader for Gender Equality and Senior Consultant at Universalia participated in a series of sessions on key thematic areas ranging from the future of financing for women’s rights, the promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), the prevention of violence against women and girls (VAWG), the engagement of men and discussions around masculinities, tax justice and women’s unpaid care labor, LGBTQ organizing, and monitoring and evaluation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as they pertain to gender equality and women’s rights. In addition to further strengthening Universalia’s knowledge in these areas, the event was an opportunity to meet future Universalia associates and institutional partners with advanced technical expertise and a presence across the world.
