As an analyst at Universalia, Christopher Chanco has participated in monitoring and evaluation studies on behalf of UN agencies and international organisations including the World Food Programme, the World Bank Group, the Red Cross, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Multilateral Organization Performance Assessment Network (MOPAN). Within La Francophonie practice area, he has notably contributed to evaluations of the programmes of the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund in West Africa. He has brought to these mandates skills in qualitative research (ex. survey design, cartographic analysis, policy analysis, interviews, archival and participatory research methods), as well as basic quantitative and cartographic methods.
Christopher has expertise in the following areas -- peacebuilding, migration issues, civil society, media support, and human rights – as well as working knowledge of international law and European institutions. With experience in diverse professional sectors, including the media and the international civil society sector, he has intimate familiarity with the dynamics of overseas development assistance, particularly in fragile contexts. Before joining Universalia, Christopher was based at the Global Forum for Media Development, a network of aid agencies and civil society organisations working to support independent media in developing countries. His interest in international development goes back to the Philippines, his home country, where he worked for the Civil Society Partnership for Development Effectiveness. His engagements in the civil society sector also exposed him to the realities of ethnoreligious conflict and forced migration in the Southern Philippines.
A journalist by training and calling, Christopher also gives workshops on media literacy and disinformation in Montréal. He works fluently in English, French, and Tagalog.
